Linda's Wood Creations
unique gifts from the

My fascination with wood started when I was in my mid 20's and just going through a divorce. I had more room to keep some of our small tools than he did. I was cleaning houses part time and at one house, they had a wooden cat that sat in the window sill. I traced it, took it home, pulled out the jig saw and proceeded to cut it out. I thought that was kind of cool, not very hard and it peaked my interest of what else I could do. Someone convinced me to try a band saw, so I bought a small table top one. That was fun but I was interested in doing "inside" cuts so someone else suggested a scroll saw. Again, I purchase a small one and that opened up new possibilities for me but it was a difficult model to work with. The fair was in town and while I was there I saw (and fell in love with), a top of the line Hawk scroll saw. It's been a joy to create things over the years with it and I still love it 30 years later, but recently (3 years ago), I got interested in turning wood on a lathe. This has been my new love. I took a few classes (still good friends with my goblet instructor), but mostly experiment on stuff myself with some help from youtube and advice from friends.
I think it's been eyebrow raising to see a woman in a predominantly male industry/hobby. Creeping up on my 60's, I hope I have many more years of creating/woodworking left in me.
